Walking Challenge Benefits Food Pantry

The nine RIC staff members who designed their own walking challenge this winter have used the proceeds from their competition to support the Alternative Education food pantry.

Participants set a goal to tally up the highest walking/running mileage over a 15-week period. Each person contributed $1/week to participate, and some of the money went toward a celebratory breakfast. The rest was used by buy food for the pantry, which Darlene Doolen and the Alternative Education staff use to help students in need, particularly around long weekends and school breaks, which school lunches are not available.

The top three Walking Challenge winners were, in order: Mike Kapala, Michele Reid and Brenda Egelston. Other participants were Mike Holton, Brittany Rizzo, Lesley Keenan, Lori Grieco, and Sue Keyser.

The group is now embarking on a water challenge.
